Action is really nice. Not too soft like a lot of euro nymph rods but also not to stiff. Can definitely cast a fly line but also soft enough to lob a mono rig. Cork quality isn’t the best but overall great value.

I had this rod's predecessor, the Echo Shadow II 3wt for about 7 years. Great mono-rig nymph rod, but it struggled in my hands when fished with a conventional 3wt fly line. Worked well with dry/dropper rigs, but less so with dry flies and streamers. That being said, that rod caught trout with every rig I used. To date, I've only lawn cast the new rod, using conventional 3wt and 4wt lines and a mono-rig. It cast very well with the 4wt and the mono-rig (Swentosky would have approved the latter). The rod was not a cannon with the 4wt but was accurate and useful to about 60' on a short test. I expect better as I learn the rod. The 3wt was less effective. I will give the rod a serious go in mid-May, on the Deschutes. Until then, I am just not comfortable assigning 5 stars.
