Wood hoops do, in fact, change the characteristic sound of your snare. The ringing isn't entirely eliminated, but it does become less metallic in timbre. While it does not "quiet" your drum, it does seem to roll off the sharpness to your tone. So, there is a sense of mellowness overall. Your cross-stick will have a more "clave" like sound. Playing the rim, as with ZZ Top - La Grange, will be fuller sounding. And rim shots will have a more powerful "pop" to them.

Their nice. They look good, sound good. Their a change from your standard metal hoops. I have metal snare drum shell and they look good. If I ever choose to get a wooden shell these hoops will be going on it.

I had played a wood hoop drum in a drum shop and knew I had to have one. Custom built my dream snare with these hoops and it is AWESOME! ...HOWEVER.....I did not think ahead....wider hoops require wider snare basket, and my new snare did not fit in my stand!! Fortunately, I had a couple other stands, and one of them opened wide enough to barely fit the new hoops in and tighten down properly. Whew..... These hoops will give you rim shots you have only dreamed of...they EXPLODE!!
