  • Perfect fit for my 2004 Tahoe (5.3L)

I noticed coolant disappearing from the reservoir in my 2004 Tahoe and after looking over the engine, discovered a bunch of nasty, crustyness right at the junction point between this steam vent pipe and the passenger's side head. It may have been fixable with just a new gasket, but the pipe itself didn't appear to be in the best shape, so I figured for the modest price, I might as well just replace it. A thing to note, the original, factory-installed pipe has a different style of seal. The original seal is a flat piece of steel with a small o-ring incorporated into it. The Dorman pipe is different in that the pipe actually has a small protrusion that sticks down into the head a few millimeters, and that protrusion has an o-ring around the base of it. Make sure you remove the original gasket from the head before installing the Dorman pipe, otherwise the Dorman o-ring will sit against the o-ring in the original gasket and that won't seal (or won't seal for long). Also, make sure the protrusion is seated within the head before you go cranking down the fixing bolt, otherwise you'll probably bend it and snap it off into the head. Take notice to the other reviewer who gave it a single star. They dinged the product for poor shipping packaging, which should've been addressed on the seller feedback. There are no issues with the product itself. Just an aside, the pipe comes with a pair of stand-off blocks that may-or-may-not be applicable to your installation. The LS1 in my Tahoe didn't require them. Some other variant of the LS may. They're there if you need them.
