This original version is the one i like. The new remastered remixed release is not the same night of shows and the new mix sounds way different. It took the led zeppelin out of the recording. This one the original has the best versions of the songs. The sound is led zeppelin. It could use a little help on the sound but not a complete change into a different recording. I find that if you turn the volume to 50-80% range this recording comes alive. And it totally rocks.

I have both the Song Remains the Same DVD, and the Song Remains the Same CD. Save yourself a great deal of $$$, and rent the DVD once. Skip through all the psychodelic special effects, and watch the band play live on the stage. Skip everything else, and go straight to the Dazed and Confused track, and watch Page work wonders. Then skip ahead to the Moby Dick section, and watch the band walk off the stage while Bonham goes to work. Everything else was just a distraction from the outstanding soundtrack... The CD has some missing tracks, but that is the least of the concerns if you are a Led Zeppelin fan. This album has the best overall mix of the best songs from the band.
I am a diehard Led Zeppelin fan, and had purchased this disc on and off for years, given it away, had it stolen. It is from the a moment in time where the mighty Zeppelin was at its peak. As a teenager, I watched the Song Remains the Same in the theatre 18 times prior to leaving for duty with the Army. It remains engraved in my mind. Now here it is, 14 years after my army retirement, and it sounds better in CD than ever. It is Led Zeppelin in New York, at Madison Square Garden, where they perform all their hits and Jimmy Pages guitar blazes like a torch on fire. Robert Plants vocals remind me of Zeus singing from Mt. Olympus and the rhythm section of John Paul Jones and of course, the late and great John Bonham, are incomparable. This is a fantastice snapshot of a great Band in its full glory. Glad I found it again!!!!Read full review
The sound was very clear and rich and varied, I heard instruments playing their cords their designed scales, and the driving beat. The CD was so very creative and old and new concepts of music for that time period and the current time frame. This CD is simply just good music from excellent musicians.

This original version is unfortunately the way to go with this album as the 2007 remastered version cuts out and rearranges some of the tracks. This has the best versions of "No Quarter", "Celebration Day", and " Whole Lotta Love". The remaster obviously has better sound, but you're really missing out with the songs.
