So far, this is the last in the series of 12 Volumes and I have been collecting the Foxfire Book series for several years with each one compelling in its own right. However, having the entire collection up to this point, (12 Volumes) gives an entire new meaning to knowing about "Just Plain Living", and how to survive with very little. What started out as a class assignment in an Appalachia high school has become a valuable lesson in life itself. I would recommend this series highly to researchers, history buffs and survivalists alike or anyone who wants to know more about how we managed to live life without relying on a magnitude of electronics governing our lives.

I grew up in a small town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula surrounded by the forest. I remember a lot of the old timers, a bunch of characters for sure! I do consulting work at times and also work with some Amish friends as they take me back to my younger years in how they do things! I am purchasing most of the Foxfire books for their use. It is always interesting to see how the old timers did things with so little. The Amish are much the same. Many of the Amish lead an idealic lifestyle, but not all. Some have the freedom from the bondage of religion and others are in bondage to it. Freedom is knowing Christ as your Savior, very simplistic and thruthfully. They best describe how, why and what the principles were that our country was founded upon. That comes out in the Foxfire series of books. They will glean much information from these books.Read full review
I have all the other vols. 1-11 and needed this one to finish the set. A very good source of information for those who want to know how people lived thru and made their living in the early 1900's thru 2004's. I like to read about others having to make do on what they have and learning to survive in troubled times. These books are doing just that, passing on the information that the people they interviewed shared and their happiness and their sadness throughout their lives in a rural community. They tell you how to pick the foods that Mother Nature has provided and then tells you how to prepare it for your family. They tell you how to dance, dig wells, or drive a Model-T Ford. If you ever had Grandparents who couldn't or wouldn't pass on this kind of information then these are the books to have, to learn all about living on nothing and living hard but learning to survive and learning to enjoy what you have. These books will have information on just about any kind of living, whether it is hard, living or easy, but mostly about how to live and love thru you life, and be able to pass on the information to your family thru your years on earth too. They tell you how to teach your children well, teaching them manners, teaching them to read, write, and to sew, hoe, or plant. They teach you about astrology, planting your garden by the moon and its signs. You won't go wrong if you are buying this book or any of the series of Foxfire books if you are looking to learn something about the past, and how to adapt it to your present.Read full review
Really good reading. So informative of the wars.and what our men and women went through. And the way our country treated the American Indians was really bad. The trail of tears should have never taken place.
