In my standing rig - Suhr Badger 30/Koko boost/Shiba drive this device is near perfect. The surprise wasn't that Suhr hardware in concert is effective and seamless. That kind of figures. The surprise was the degree to which it impacted the formula. It is the proverbial "missing piece". First - some context. Like many players, I'm a hobbyist, not a gigging musician. Therefore, the goal is to construct an analog - to recreate the tone of a fully engaged, output driven, EL34 tube amplifier at acceptable home volume level. As most of you can attest to, this is no mean trick (Tone chasing of any kind has the potential break the heart, the mind and the bank.) Firstly, i started with a stellar, 30 watt, power-scaled, hand built guitar amp - (Couldn't ask for a better start point - but not there yet.) Secondly, as endorsed by a vast majority of users, the Koko boost - basically Suhr's version of the Klon. (Great improvement - but not there yet.) Thirdly, the Shiba Drive - again, Suhr's iteration of blues breaker style OD. (Another level of improvement - but not there yet.) Then some fine Wampler products were introduced - Dual Fusion and Ratsbane. (Classy and mega-adjustable pedals - in and out and round about but not there yet.) At this juncture, maybe a little discouragement began to set in. Whatever to do now?! Logically, the next choice/gamble was to go all in on Suhr fx - the Riot Reloaded. God bless America and the engineers at Suhr - mission accomplished. It had been a long time since this old guy had heard and felt the tone and response of a sincerely cranked Marshall Plexi. Regardless, you never forget it nor fail to recognize it. Once the Riot graced my pedalboard the whole rig came alive. It felt like 1970 all over again. The creation of the analog, the mini-beast, the bonzai tree rig, if you will, was realized. At this point, the only thing that could possibly make me happier would be owning a Suhr guitar, too. In conclusion, as a guy who started out back in the day with a Big Muff and a Dallas-Arbiter Fuzz Face and has heard and played a huge number of distortion devices over the years, including digital modelers, I will swear the Riot is one of the best that ever was.Read full review
