A must have for people with kids!,,,
The main reason I purchased this kit is because I watched my 7 year old open the gate to my truck and almost knock out my 4 year old daughter. Thank goodness the gate missed her. My truck is a 2013 Chevy Avalanche a and this kit worked perfectly. Easy install, 5 minutes tops and function just like it said it would. I’m very happy with the purchase and performance of the product, highly recommend it. Plus it’s nice to know if the gate slips out of my hold it won’t go slamming down, it just glide to the full open position. Tailgate assist - great addition
Very easy to install, useful, inexpensive, and works excellent! It's a must have to prevent the tailgate from slamming open whether your hands are full, don't have a good grip, opening the tailgate from an awkward position, or whatever the case may be. I bought this for a cadillac escalade ext, knowing there are some slight differences to the silverado. It required drilling a hole in the lower plate to accommodate the existing bolt hole. Pretty easy to put together just pay close attention to the instructions for the blind insert which expands to attach to the hole in your tailgate. Very simple to install and works great. No more worry about dropping the tailgate when trying to open one handed with arms full of lumber. Just flip the latch and it will easy down. Very nice and great price. I love the DeeZee tailgate assist. GM's OEM version of the slow open tailgate contains a plastic bushing. Replacement cost is $30. I'll go with the DeeZee version every time. A few bucks cheaper, and I fully expect it will last the life of my truck. Great Purchase, absolutely love this product. Such a simple device but excellent results. Even though I have a 2018 Silverado dbl cab its a custom so doesn't come thru factory with tailgate assist. It would've cost an arm and a leg to purchase part to make like factory. Don’t last as long as the truck.
Works good but they don’t last forever. My Silverado is a 2011 (it’s now 2021)and I bought the DZ assist the first year of ownership. It lasted close to ten years more like 9 years. but stop functioning and allows the tailgate to again drop like a rock. Of course this could depend how much your tailgate is opened. It first started to free fall the at initial or top of the opening and would still slow travel the lower half of operation. But after more time and more magic oil to leak out it may as well not be there. And once you’re use to it being there and just clicking the gate open and letting go, you’re expecting a slow fall. A few times I had to apologize to my friend when I opened the tailgate on his Chevy Avalanche and allowed it to crash down being use to my truck with a fresh unit.
