DR-701 is solid and high quality -
That being said, pulling hot AA batteries out after just 50 minutes of operation is a sad engineering oversight - the external power supply using a typical flimsy wall wart and Chinese cheap as can get wire makes one wish for a solid power supply inside the tiny unit with a sturdy standard ac jumper cord to power up. The menu fails to make the simple 4 track recording option clear - must select "mono" and look at a 1-2 left right 3-4 left right screen as good news - and the mystery 5-6 internal stereo mx down recording intertannl is not clarified if it will accept an external 5-6 from say the PA board. Manual as usual appears to be written in Klingon language by a non-user...the age old problem of cheap poorly written manuals continues... But for the money it is a great bargain - I love mine and will be using it every week recording live gigs - way to go TASCAM! If you want to make albums of your live gigs or great movie soundtracks this is your affordable solution and extremely lightweight and portable - I LOVE IT!Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Best 4 channels audio recorder
If you are looking for a 4 channels audio recorder when you are in the field, this is an excellent choice. Tascam claims that it is 6 channels, It is not, I called them and talked to them on the phone, it records 4 seperates mic, then combines them and recorder them into 2 more channels, so you cannot have 6 inputs. beside this issue it is a great field recorder with a superb preamp.
