If you are handy buy this kit. Beats spending $500.00 to $700.00 for a new water heater.
I have an eight year old electric AO Smith water heater which went cold. I searched for possible problems and solutions. The answers were 1. bad thermostat 2. bad heating element. I opened the area of the heater where the thermostat and element were located and found the red reset button had blown, this is caused when the water temperature exceeds 180 degrees. I push it in and it clicked, so I knew it reset. Two hours later, I had hot water. The following day, it was tripped again, so it decided to replace the parts. This kit had all the parts necessary to replace everything for under $30.00. The job took me under an hour and the water heater is now working like new. It's been over 3 weeks and no problems. I appreciated the enclosed instructions that led me through without a hitch. I had only to buy a one-and-a-half-inch socket to fit the elements.
