Great for long trains
Great addition to my layout, have five sets now which gives me a 4 meter long coal train. Couplers are an issue and have to be coupled and uncoupled by hand, but the close coupling is more realistic looking so is worth this added trouble. As stated in the documentation these cars are not happy when short shank couplers are used on the locomotive. Solved this problem by adding some lead weights to the first car, and now pull 40 cars with no issues. Without this added weight the first car would derail on even very large radius curves pulling only 8 cars. Way Cool!!
I'm having a lot of fun, but when you consider that a real coal train can be 120 to 140 cars,,,,(I don't think that's gonna happen on my layout). The couplers have really neat slack (about an inch and a half over 24 cars). My locomotives have Kato short, medium and Microtrain couplers. I have trouble with all of them causing the first coal car to derail on even wide radius curves. Figuring out how to solve that should keep me occupied for a while.
