This 80mm Celestron Ultima Spotting Scope was rated as the best buy for under $200. I found it for less than that and bought it to supplement my 10X binoculars. It did that well. It was bright and clear at 20X and useable through 35X. Like any other scope, the view got darker and less sharp as the zoom increased the magnification. I didn't buy it for 40 to 60X. The focus knob was smooth and convenient and I could hold the scope by hand up to about 35X. I had good results using it from inside a car by resting it on the door with the window open. I am very satisfied with this unit. It came with a decent tripod, tripod case, and scope case. The tripod had a hook under the mounting plate. The tripod stability might be increased by hanging a bit of weight on the hook. The straight model would probably have been easier to get on the subject, but it was another $50 and I didn't expect to use the scope enough to justify the additional splash. Read full review

Very good quality and affordable spotting scope. Quality and performance are very good for a scope in this price point. Nice construction, good eyepiece, very nice case, and decent tripod. I use a Celestron clamp-on cell phone adapter to get great wildlife pictures. The adapter clamps on to the eyepiece of my spotting scope, telescope, and binoculars. The attached pictures were taken from approximately 200 yards, and I was not even using the full 60x magnification.

Really nice scope for the price. I've never had a real high end one, but this one met my expectations plus some. Will be perfect for wildlife and bird watching. Good crisp view. Bright images. Focuses easily. Well made, but also surprisingly light weight for its size. No issues with fogging. Only thing I didnt care for was the tripod that came with it. Lots of plastic and cheaply made. Works fine once you get on your target, but kinda bouncey/rigid and doesnt move smoothly while trying to find your target.

I waited to see how it worked for shooting the eclpse before reviewing. The Celestron dslr adapter threaded right on, and the Nikon D7000 popped right onto that. It does not lock like a lens, and the camera could fall off, so be careful and test it on your lap to get a feel for it. I bought the scope before I even knew of the eclipse, it's for nature, and it is awesome. Feels very well made, focus and zoom were very smooth.

Crisp and clear image. Very nice scope. I bought this angled eye piece scope to replace an inline eye piece scope I have been using for a decade
