This model is from the first run of Empire Builder equipment from Walthers. The big difference between the 1st run and the current run is these cars do not have the grab irons and stir-up steps applied. With both runs of model, it is up to the modeler to apply numbers and car names. The cars are accurate to Great Northern ACF, Budd and Pullman-Standard cars built for the mid-Century Empire Builder. The cars have full interiors molded in a beige plastic. You can detail paint the interiors or leave them as they came from the manufacturer. My only complaint about the cars is the Omaha Orange is much too dark to actual prototype paint chips. I have no problem drilling the body for the grab irons, but some do. My model will be stripped and repainted with custom mixed paint to accurately represent Great Northern Omaha Orange. Decals will be from Microscale and Railway Classics. The under side of the car will be super detailed with things like steam lines, traps, etc. The windows will be tinted to match the prototype. Etched Venetian window shades from Plano Models will be used to copy the Budd shades. The interior will be redone with better seats, etc. from Red Cap Line. It will also have a no load DCC decoder with four outputs to realistically control the LED lighting I will be installing.Read full review
