I needed a simple switch to control the speed of the fan on a kitchen exhaust type fan. That works great. I'm very pleased with it and it's very easy to use. The price wasn't bad either

Works well except: 1. When switched off it still passes some electricity to the load (be sure to turn your fan off so it does not bother the motor). 2. When on max speed setting the load will only receive about 85% of the power it would if it were plugged directly into the wall. Note this is expressly for fans as it passes the most power when the knob is turned on and the speed drops as you continue to turn the knob clockwise. Appropriate for fans but not so good for other uses. The picture shows this and the title mentions fans so the listing is clear about this.

The item is as simple as it gets. Turn the knob to control the fan speed. It works. The construction is all plastic, holding by only three screws. If you squeeze it with a little force, the back cover starts to come apart. So not much of built quality there for sure. It's around $10, so not expecting too much. Hopefully, it'll last for awhile.

Use it with a floor fan. Outlet is near chair. Easy to reach and no extra cord.

It did make a Lasko box fan quieter, but I got a hum in exchange. Not sure if this application works well for a box fan, but others might like it. The hum is a bassier noise, so it was a little hard to filter out
