An HD NES?!
This thing works well for what it is, which is an NES that has an HDMI output. The controller that comes with the system is ok, but an aftermarket “dog bone” controller for the NES is a better bet. Got a new dud.
As disappointing and half hearted as hyperkin's customer service, this little console could have been great if they hadn't used such cheap parts. New unit never worked and available parts don't suit the top loaders. Be warned they don't care about online stores and won't offer a warranty to you. Easy to set up NES clone HD console
As a lover of old 8-bit NES games, I was happy to discover that there was an HD edition of Hyperkin's Retron console. The console was easy to set up and I was playing my old carts in a few minutes. It displays in 720p and it looks good on my 4k TV. The only nitpick I have is that some of the colors seem a bit off from what the games looked liked on my old NES. That's only a minor nitpick and it's been awesome to play some old games and relive a little of my childhood. NES Classic Killer
This system is an excellent value. Tested with Pocket Games 30 in 1 Multi-cart and original Super Mario / Duck Hunt cart and both work great. Also extensively tested system with an original zapper gun and old CRT TV and everything worked as it should. I can't say the same for the Gamerz Tek 8-bit HD that I also tested with the zapper and was completely unplayable with 1 out of 10 shots registering and several times none registering. The controller is awesome and in my opinion better than the original as it very ergonomic and better suited for long play sessions. I have seen others reviews complain about sound inaccuracies and colors being off a bit, but honestly I couldn't tell. Gameplay a little too dark, but still pretty good.
I was able to fix the darker than usual graphics, but the audio quality seemed like it was lacking a lot. It doesn't sound as accurate as the original NES, and it doesn't produce high quality sound, unlike some emulators out there. Overall, it's not too bad an experience, but it's no where near perfect, so don't buy this if you want to run NES games accurately, buy it for the low cost and the fact that it runs all games in HD Graphics.

Very nice but with issues.
The Retron 1 HD is a very nice NES clone for the price but does have its issues. One of them being that the HDMI output has a color problem. In game like "Pro Wresting", "Punch Out", "T&C Surf", etc., skin tone colors are displayed as white instead of their original color. The composite output displays the colors fine but somewhere in development this was over-looked for the HDMI output. While "Castlevania III" is now playable, other games like "Rad Racer II" are unplayable. The Retron 1 HD does look nice on HDTV's. I just wish Hyperkin would have spent more time testing this out before releasing it. For the price though, it's still fun to play.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Nostalgia in a box
Well, the graphics is the nostalgic 8-bit that one can expect. The games never had the smooth graphics and textures of what you can get from an XBox or a PS4, but if you're buying this, you're not looking for that. The only thing I have to say that's bad about this is sometimes the games stick when inserted, and you have to fight like hell to remove the game.
