I have considered get a vertical battery grip for my A7 for some time. While it is a great camera, it does consume battery power at a fast pace This allows for two batteries and greater time in the field. Looked at aftermarket grips but found that most had limited functionality compared to Sony grip.

Well, it is a grip. It makes little A7 more comfortable for all day events. And doubles the juice. Although it is made out of plastic, the finish matches the body perfectly. As is the size and dimensions. Easy to put on, easy to take off. Has a place to latch in the battery door, which is great. Works with two or just one battery in any of the slots.

metal construction would be nice, but the battery door and slider are well made and are easy to load and unload. buttons feel good. The finish matches well with first gen Sony cameras. Grip is nice, but skinny.

I tried a 3rd party grip for the A7r and sent it back. Although I purchased the grip to get the extra battery life for macros and portraits, the functional controls for shutter and feature control while shooting vertical formats are very handy. In all ways it had the quality handling and function I've come to expect from Sony photographic equipment. Buy anything else, you'll be sorry.

Very nice piece. Makes the camera a little bigger, but I am coming from a DSLR and this makes it feel more like a small DSLR. The extra battery storage is very useful with these power hungry cameras. Highly recommended!
