VCR's are hard to find these days.. everyone threw them away when DVD's came out. It's a bit confusing but a VCR takes VHS tapes which were discontinued long ago. This one is a JVC brand which was a leader in VCR machines back in the day. If you have a lot of VHS tapes you may want to watch someday keep you VCR. You can have VHS tapes transferred to DVD but it's expensive

This player has a very good picture quality. The remote control is defective, the stop button doesn’t respond. This unit will not record TV programs, and that’s my main purpose for the purchase. Otherwise, It was good value for watching VHS and DVD’s.
