Manufacturer: Walthers. Not too long ago, prototypes for the Cornerstone Al's Victory Service Gas Station like Al's could be found at every busy city intersection and along most major highways. Introduced in the late 1930s, box style stations Al's this sprang up from coast to coast and remained a standard well into the 1950s.
Just completed assembling this service station and placing it at a roadside intersection on my N-Scale model railroad. All the plastic parts are clean and well molded, and sprues file off easily for smooth edges. Easy assembly, but a few parts must be filed slightly to improve fit. Instructions and diagrams are typically inaccurate from this manufacturer, but an experienced model builder should figure it out easily. BUT: gas pumps are accurate, lacking appropriate detail such as filler hoses, decals for pump faces, etc. Other typical gas station accessories, such as an exterior display rack of oil cans, trash cans, office & shop interior details could be easily molded by the manufacturer and included in the kit. Overall, a fair value for a period structure.
Decals were completely un-usable; would not slide off backing no matter how long you soaked them Perhaps very old stock or bad batch. Without the decals, this is basically a white box...I have mad many other kits with decals without problems.
