Genuine Lap Steel at a Sweet PriceYou'll get the distinctively rich Hawaiian tones only a lap steel can provide with the Gretsch G5700 Electromatic lap steel guitar. The G5700 is a value-packed proposition with a solid mahogany body for vibrant, wide ranging tone and chrome hardware to match the striking Tobacco Sunburst finish. Plug the G5700 into your favorite amplifier, and the Gretsch single-coil pickup puts out lucidly smooth sounds with just the right amount of bite and jangle. Whether you're been playing lap steel for a while or are just getting started, you'll love the bang for your buck that you get with the Gretsch G5700 Electromatic lap steel guitar.
It has nice tone with a few limitations. The tuners are very poor quality, it is Chinese made. The bridge is fixed, so there is no chance of fine tuning intonation or string height. If you lay the bar on the strings on the higher registers, the second and third lowest strings don't touch the bar without placing pressure on the bar, adding to the intonation problem. The finish is absolutely beautiful, high gloss and nice color. That being said, it could use moleskin or felt to keep it from sliding around on you lap. I used black adhesive backed felt, worked perfectly.
Looks classy and sounds even better. Great value, very happy I purchased it. Beautiful Instrument.
I am 67 years old, weeks away from being 68. I got my first steel guitar when I had a paper route and a customer of mine gave me a Supro lap steel guitar. I took lessons and learned to play it as I promised her I would do. I still have that guitar, and have worn out a Sho-Bud pedal steel guitar and am working on wearing out a Marlin 12 string universal pedal steel guitar now. I said all that to show that I am somewhat aware of what a steel guitar should sound like and play like. I was looking for a new guitar, lap steel to carry when I take it out to play as my old Supro is getting old, like me, and I don't want to risk damaging it. I have been looking for sometime now and checking reviews and comments on lap steels. After much thought and studying I decided to purchase this Gretsch. I am glad it did. It looks great, it came and there is not a flaw or blemish anywhere on the guitar. More important than that is when I plugged it into the amp (I am using a Nashville 400) and tuned it up and started playing it, it sounded WONDERFUL! Great sound. Love it. It plays very easy and smooth. I think it is a great value, price was nice and it is well worth the money. Yes, I would buy another in a heartbeat if I were to need it. It is a very nice looking guitar, pleasant to look at, pleasant to play and pleasant to listen to. I have read some reviews where the writer complained that there is not "non-slip" backing on the guitar. This is not a problem at all. I have had no problem with it wanting to slip off my lap. I like the old time traditional country music and gospel the best, and playing Hank Williams to gospel, this guitar is a perfect fit. If you are thinking of purchasing one, do it. I really don't think I could have found a better lap steel to fit my needs than this one at any price.
