Hi, I read this book more than twice and studied most of the subjects in this book more than once. Had two exams in computer science related to this subjects. And this is what I think: What is so good about this book? *---------------------------------------* You don't need to have any networks background. You can find a lot of information about almost all the major things about computer networkings in this book. This book is a complete computer networks overview. My Favorites chapters of this book are *--------------------------* Chapter 5 THE NETWORK LAYER- 5.2 ROUTING ALGORITHMS 5.3 CONGESTION CONTROL ALGORITHMS 5.6 THE NETWORK LAYER IN THE INTERNET. Chapter 6 THE TRANSPORT LAYER - 6.4 THE INTERNET TRANSPORT PROTOCOL: UDP 6.5 THE INTERNET TRANSPORT PROTOCOL: TCP Other Chapters are also great and they talk about: Physical layer, data link layer, MAC medium access control sublayer, The Network Layer, The transport Layer, Application layer, Network security. This book is very good for computer networking wide knowledge, however it does not target a specific subject. The book I received was Eastern Economy Edition. Inside, it is identical to the more expensive US edition. This book is written in a fresh, compelling style. Although it can become quite technical at times, this book contains a weath of networking information.
I'm new to networking and this book was exactly what I needed. Other books I've tried reading from book stores either assumed I had a strong background in networking or didn't provide enough detail for me to understand how things worked below the surface. This book has it all.
University of London recommends this book as part of our studies (BSc CIS). - the writing style is extremely friendly and casual. - the contents quite up-to-date for my purposes. - This book helps you understand data coms based on the OSI model. Excellent
Love the book, it has helped me a lot in my advance networking class. This book comes in handy if you want to know more on the history or want to learn more in networking.
