ReviewsWith the impending bicentennial of the expedition of the Corps of Discovery, it is inevitable that a number of books tracing the journey will appear. This clearly written, well-illustrated volume gives a good, slightly more than bare-bones treatment of the history of the Louisiana Purchase, the lives of Lewis and Clark, and the course of the expedition. In six brief chapters, the open format, lucid prose, and well-captioned photographs and period reproductions provide a sound accounting of the salient points of the opening of the West. Less detailed than Jacqueline Morley's Across America (Watts, 1998), this is an attractive introductory title with enough information to fuel report writing. A solid offering., School Library Journal March 2003
