I love the movies altogether because they explore a vast universe of planets, creatures, droids and spaceships. But when I saw Ralph McQuarrie's art in Star Wars Galaxy cards from Topps, I thought wow wouldn't it be great to see these other concepts in the films. Some of the concepts were from obvious inspirations, such as the Tatooine skiffs look like sail boats. Or the Cloud Cars were like police motorcycles. But what I really wanted to see in this book was McQuarrie's own words of where he got the idea to draw this unique universe. Ofcourse not all paintings are his, but the majority of them are and I'm a big fan of his artwork. The stories by Kevin J. Anderson: eh. They are basically Expanded universe stuff and a rehash of George Lucas' own work. I'd rather see details about where the artists got their ideas from and what did George think. Personally I bought the book for that reason as well, but the illustrations are one of a kind better than the prequel's concepts. I like how George decided to put some of the concept work in the new films. If you like that unofficial Expanded universe stuff which exploits the concept work and doesn't explain any background of the art itself, this is the book for you.Read full review
This is a great book, full of artist renderings of the Star Wars Universe. I also have The Star Wars Ultimate Visual guide, an illustrated character reference book, so why not have this one to go along with it for the places the events in the saga took place. I couldn't beat the price either.
This is a Star Wars fan must have..great illustrations and quality in general. This is a brand new hard cover one..very seriuos seller.
Neat book! Love the McQuarrie concept art! I like the way they did the text too. Each planet was written by a character from the universe, some I recognized and some I did not. However found it kinda boring.. I got it for the artwork though so that didnt bug me too much.
