This is the complete live performance of KISS @ Donnington in 1996 during the magical and highly successful reunion tour bringing the band's original members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley & Peter Criss together for a bombastic concert experience complete with their iconic makeup, costumes and stage show which included pyrotechnics, fire breathing, blood spitting, exploding guitars and a high rise drum kit. But with all that, we must remember, it's about the classic music--filled with memorable guitar riffs, solos, over the top vocals, fantasy lyrics and beastly drums! We get 17 tracks on this vinyl/cd/mp3 release. Songs include Deuce, Shock Me, Watching You, Love Gun, Black Diamond & Detroit Rock City. Sound Quality at times don't match with this high octane performance, but it's still a fun listen. The vocals are upfront with thunderous bass. Drums sound great but for about half the show, the lead and rhythm guitars are a bit buried by the previously mentioned. Not until the song Shock Me is when the audio quality is better EQ'd. These 'Off the Soundboard' releases are as-is; there's no overdubbing on these unlike the KISS albums "Alive" I, II & III. But they could use a producer and engineer to make these better (they should had recruited Eddie Cramer to sonically tweak these). However, we get to experience the raw energy of these live tracks from KISS tours of the past during times of the band's peaks of success and musicianship. Yes, KISS is to be experienced live and this release gives us just that. So crank it up and be prepared to 'Rock n Roll All Night'! Read full review
