I have bought many albums by Elvis Costello and some hit the spot and some are just too wordy to keep me listening. it's certainly not that I mind an album requiring a few listens before I get it but the fact is sometimes I can't be bothered. Look Now is an album I have already heard a number of times and its delights are growing all the time. It's not an aggressive album but one with great melodies, good lyrics and very good musical performances. Highly recommended.

Wasn't too sure on first listen, but after two or three more I have really got to like EC's new one. He still occasionally croons too much, and uses vibrato more than necessary, but I guess the fact that he can still reach some of those notes at all at his age is pretty impressive! The orchestration is near-perfect - well arranged brass, and great backing vocals. Nice to see Steve and Pete still in situ. And the collaborations with Bacharach work almost as well as on Painted From Memory. Can't say I can detect Carole King's influence on 'Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter', although it is one of the better tracks. Other stand-outs - 'Don't Look Now', 'Unwanted Number', 'I Let The Sun Go Down', 'Photographs Can Lie', 'He's Given Me Things'. Less satisfying are 'Mr & Mrs Hush', and 'Stripping Paper'. Very pleased that there is no padding - most 'bonus' tracks, alternate takes etc are fairly pointless. Read full review

The maturity comes through very early on in the album, a musician who has matured with the passing decades. The Bacharach influence on several tracks comes through, gentle backing vocals, plenty of morose brass, and yet Costello in his 80s prime is there too. A fine, fine album and the best for many a year.
