Best Humidifier Ever
I bought this to replace the Carrier water wheel garbage that came with the furnace. I was surprised when the instructions said to use hot water, what a genius idea. That worked out great because the water heater sits right beside the furnace. Just had to cut the duct opening a couple inches bigger vertically and replace the 6” bypass duct that the carrier turned to rust dust. It’s in the 20s out and set the humidistat at 40%. Highest it can be without sweating the windows. The humidifier has been running two days now and not one drop of water has come out the drain tube. Not for the average person
This is a good unit, but requires some expertise to install. It must be wired into the furnace for proper operation, and it doesn't contain all the things needed for a proper installation. Even when installed properly, it's going to waste water. On very cold days, probably at least a gallon or more. Could be better designed to prevent that. Every home needs this!
My house was so dry we had a clay pot crack, ruined one of my expensive guitars and I woke up in the middle of the night because my mouth was so dry. For the past few years we used a unit that you need to fill up every day. I didn’t realize I could buy a unit like this for under $150 bucks I paid close to that for a unit I needed to fill up all the time. This unit was the best money I have spent in a long time now I don’t wake up in the middle of the night with a dry mouth! The unit is easy to install with some basic tools and a 10 buck set of tin snips. I don’t have much knowledge about hvac or house repairs in general and I installed this just fine. You will need to buy some things to install this kit. Just like a furnace and most anything you buy for a house it’s a universal fit every house is built differently so there is no way the company could supply you with everything to install it that’s why the kit is so cheap. If they supplied every possible part you might need it would cost hundreds of dollars more. I’ve seen people leave bad reviews because they don’t understand it’s universal just like everything for a house. When you buy a furnace or a hot water tank it doesn’t come with everything to install it either because again every house is different.

straight forward, easy with a smart thermostat
Very straight forward install. Took about 2-3h with no prior HVAC experience other than being mechanically inclined. I hooked it up to an Ecobee and was able to bypass the entire transformer, humidistat, controller install and instead hooked up one of the wires to the common terminal of the HVAC control board and the other running to the ACC+ terminal on the ecobee (likely the same for a Nest). APRILAIRE 600M (M) Manual is the vest option for a large house.
This is the BEST HUMIDIFIER. After 31 years of use my gave up. We REPLACED it with the same, APRILAIRE 600M. The MANUAL (M) will NOT brake. Always functional and reliable. I was told by the serviceman that installed them that the 'AUTOMATIC" gives them all kinds of problems, difficult to install and the electronic parts are NOT reliable. My home was very dry and I decided it was low humidity during heating season. Used a portable humidifier and decided on a more permanent solution. I bought the 600M. I'm handy and had no problem installing the unit. I set the humidistat at about 34 and my readings are in the mid-forties. No more static shock when I get out of the chair. Best feature-works well. Aprilaire 600M
Well designed unit. I purchased the 600M although my house is under 2000sqf. It raised my humidity level 5 percent during the first heat cycle. Only down side was the water distribution plate that sits on top of the filter was damaged. I was able to fix it with some super glue.
