  • It might have been better if I hadn't read the manga or seen the anime beforehand.

SPOILERS AHEAD! Artistically, the movie is pretty awesome to look at. The CGI (Al), the costumes (loved Ed's coat!), and character portrayal are all very well done. The plot? Eh, not so much. The movie starts out like the manga does but it goes off the rails pretty soon after that. Manga plot lines are mixed and mingled (mangled?) to the point that you're not entirely sure what's going on or what's going to happen next. Minor characters in the manga end up taking center stage in the movie. Poor Al is hardly seen at all! We all know that Al is Ed's consistently loyal and ever present companion yet Al all but disappears in the movie. Winry ends up tagging along with Ed which was a HUGE disappointment for me because it's supposed to be AL traveling with Ed NOT Winry. Fullmetal Alchemist is supposed to be the story of two brothers, not a boy and his neighbor friend. Whatever, movie. :p Guess Al's CGI was just too expensive. :/ The movie ends kinda sorta open ended so there is the potential for a sequel but who knows if that will ever happen. Maybe if a sequel is made, they can explain why Ed never once transmuted his arm and drew out his arm blade! :(
