Just bought my second ever ipod and guess what I bought another ipod video 5th gen. Why I can here you asking...did you not buy the latest classic. Here's why...I bought my first ipod 5th gen in 2005 and it never let me down the battery never ran flat and it was virtually indestructible once in a good protective case and looked after. The only reason I needed a new one in 2012 is because the first one was stolen. My new one (obviously 2nd hand as not made anymore) seems just as good. The new classic was not compatible with my car stereo ipod lead input so not worth buying that and to be honest this one does pretty much the same things. If you use an ipod in your car with an FM transmitter rather than a lead in it is much better to get a 5th gen or a later classic as the ipod touch is hard to control when driving even if attached to dashboard. This 5th gen is as easy to use as a normal radio changing stations. I believe that this model in particular is unbeatable for music lovers and those seeking good value as it comes in at often half the price of the latest model for almost the same features. To maximise its use and make it as good as the latest model just do more of the preparation for that "road trip" in itunes so do the genius mixes there and sync into your 5th gen. The only thing I dislike about this ipod is that the back plate in shiny chrome is almost impossible not to scratch, however it makes a great travelling mirror, something all other models cannot claim. Sure it is a bit chunky for only an 80gb but thats marginal and I would back this ipod against an ipod touch in any challenging environment, it's tougher, it is easier to operate if like me touch screens just don't seem to respond well to your... well...touch. Apparently the later classic 6th gen has a better battery well that may be but I never managed to run down my original 5th gen, it went on and on particularly if you don't have the backlight on or only for 2 secs or so. If you want to watch videos buy an ipod touch or a magnifying glass particularly if you are a fan of reading the credits at the end of a programme. Whilst the 5th gen classic was called officially an ipod video. This was before the touch came out and this or the 6th gen are pretty useless for picture size especially if it's a widescreen film as you can imagine given shape of the screen. All other features are fine it's basically best at music ok at photos and the rest is just a bonus. Mine spends most of it's time on shuffle or playing one of the imported genius playlists I've done. The EQ settings don't change the sound that much, that is altered much more by changing headphones. In summary this 5th gen ipod is like a life long trusted friend, easy to live with, not complicated or fussy, reliable and not gimmicky. It helps you appreciate the music without fussing around, it is a design classic and will hold it's value well if you keep all items and the box it comes in.Read full review
The Apple iPod looks good, sounds good and (if you want to listen to hours of your fav music), does you good! Robust, simple to operate, easy to carry; the iPod Classic is a brilliant piece of micro-engineering. Able to store thousands of music tracks it is the ideal way of having all your music collection in one place but listen to it wherever you travel. Brilliant!! 5 stars!

I brought this product because my 8GB iPod was just not enough. Got this and I loved it, I can put all my favourite bands on without having to keep deleting music. It's easy to use but sometimes can freeze for a few seconds while playing music, but it's not much to worry about.
This product benifits from the installation of Rockbox. Rockbox will allow you to drag and drop all your music files from multiple computers. I installed it primarily for the vastly improved sound quality. Go for this model rather than the ipod6.

Love music so took the plunge to buy an 80gb ipod classic. Great price Great sound a few scratches but its old and sounds great. Have only half filled so far but great to have the convenience to carry so much music with me.
