Works as designed
They seem a little too soft or the groove is milled too deep? I went through a bunch of them this past winter like a theater occupant eating popcorn watching a thriller movie! I've purchased 3 packs so far... But this is my 1st winter here and I am responsible for a 2 building 19 unit ground level apartment complex with several long walkways.. At least the parking lot gets plowed though I have to assist there as well..
But main point is, they protect the transmission/differential so it's a trade off, which is a quick fix vs a costly and long shop time fix. Next year the obstacles (1 rock, some ice 'modules', a half concrete block and a raised culvert etc) and the obstacle 'course' will be cleaned up some and what cannot be improved, will be marked as such..
I recommend using these shear pins and not cheating with harder bolts. Hassle? Maybe, but better safe than sorry IMO.
