The iconic one M-20 from Guild was the first guitar to roll off the assembly line in 1967, when the company had grown so much that it moved to a new factory in Westerly, RI. Nearly 50 years later, history has repeated itself in a brand new, state-of-the-art facility in California. The M-20 is a concert-sized acoustic guitar with a solid mahogany top, back and sides. It is nicknamed the "Nick Drake Guitar" because it appears on the album cover of Drake's album Bryter Layter. It features a rosewood bridge and fingerboard, bone nut and saddle, and an extremely light satin finish that really makes this guitar sing. The M-20's modest features include a vintage-style rosette and the mother-of-pearl Guild logo on the headstock. Each M-20 comes with a hand-signed, numbered certificate of authentic.
As an owner of many vintage small bodied Gibsons & Martins, as well as 50's and 60's M20's, I hoped it would not play or sound like a step down. After 50 yrs playing, this is my first ever new guitar purchase, and right out of the box it resembled and equaled the tone of my 30's era Gibson L0, except much easier to fret. This is why I made the decision to buy new, as I'm at the age where I need guitars that are easier on the hands. The great mahogany tone is just what I expect from the Guild name. A lightweight gem!
