I've read several of our past presidnets books, and this one seemed a bit easier to read. I really liked how he wrote this; He concentrated on the biggest dicisions he had to make, and really explained why and how things went down. Weather you like him or not, or whatever political party you are with, I think everyone knows that this job is one that you dont want. He had the hardest presidency in history I think, with 911, Irag, Katrina, and the other stuff the president has to be responsible for. It's a fast read and a good read. I am putting this book up for my son to read when he gets old enought, along with the elder Bush's book and Clintons book.
Writing from the product perspective (not the content), Decision Points - in Kindle version (maybe in hardcover too) - is filled with photos placed according to the story that is being told, and this makes fact recollection much easier to the reader. There are few books around which value photo placement in such way, so one do not have to search the book or elsewhere for "evidence". A great idea. From the content perspective, the book starts off with a brief and light take on his early days from birth all the way to politics. Although the chapter is called "Quitting", an explicit reference for the long gone and self acknowledged drinking habits, alcohol itself does not - and should not - make the highlights here. Certainly, because it's not the most important thing to talk about. Moreover, if quitting alcohol is considered a first decision point in the whole context, well done, it is a step ahead. From chapter 2 - "Running" - and on, it will be all about politics. Judging by the pages read so far, Bush truly shows he knows what he was facing during a difficult decade in many levels. A remarkable collection of security threats (proven or not proven to exist), a natural disaster of incredible proportions and the verge of an economic meltdown of unprecedented consequences are too much for one to handle, no matter how prepared or unprepared, well or bad assisted a commander in chief is. While the handling of some or all aspects of these major issues could have been better, as himself acknowledges in the book, decisions and directions were given according to the best available information and common sense at a given time. If results of any given action led to effective success or failure, depending on common understanding or individual views on the subject of choice, is a completely different discussion. This is an honest account of a person who dealt with some of the most difficult issues in current history, and thank God none of us had to walk in his shoes. Even for a minute.Read full review
This book is long awaited by myself and I’m sure by others as well, who look forward to hearing about one man’s time to take America places where few presidents are willing to go, for fear of approval and political correctness. We are America and time will tell about this president’s long term, POSITIVE effect on this country and the world. Although his decisions may not have been popular, they certainly came from a leader who cared enough to protect and serve the people of the United States of America as well as other countries. Every man has a destiny and a journey to walk through in his life. I’m sure this book will be well-written and very insightful for those who do not understand what it means to give selflessly for the country and to protect the freedom of others. NO...I'm sorry ,“reynaldoguns”. I look forward to reading this book and will definitely give a follow-up review and full honest impression of it based upon its clarity and content. God Bless America!Read full review

I enjoyed this book because it gave the former President of the United States a chance to tell his story to the world and why he made certain decisions for the betterment of the country. Not everything was the correct decision but with this book the reader gets to see his perspective on issues wide ranging, from the election recount in 2000 to the Iraq War and the War on Terror. I decided to buy this book because I am a Republican, Patriot and feel George W. Bush did many great things for this nation and I appreciate what he has done and have never listened to liberal biased news media and after seeing NBC news interview with him and hearing about this book I knew I had to have it immediately, so I went on ebay and purchased while the interview show was still on not even knowing what would be in the book. Anyway, it is nice he was able to take time to write his memoirs himself instead of having someone do his biography without any of his input later. Hearing his stories about growing up, standing up for his family, the relationships he had in Washington DC and his young business accomplishments were nice to hear from his perspective. I know he had editors etc, but you can hear the stories and follow them and laugh at some of his jokes, it is not a dull book as the Bush family is comical, I read 70 pages in what seemed like only an hour and enjoyed it. And on a biased perspective on my own, I gained more respect than I already had for him as I found out he goes to a Methodist church, my own religion, so I guess I can say I am even more biased, but if you do not like good stories from world politicans than this is not the book for you. It also shows the libel to character that the media did and its better knowing he wrote his own book and defended his actions for his entire presidency! Shows how quickly the US media circus can try to ruin a reputation of a world leader so they can have more viewers and it is a bunch of hype. I already had much respect for George W. Bush and I am glad I own the book, plus I got it for half off the hardcover price when I bought it on ebay, sorry he did not make a profit from the sale, but overall I would say this is a family oriented book, full of great political stories and how he made his life altering decisions. If you buy it read it as soon as you get it!Read full review
If you've ever wondered what thought process a president goes thru to make a decision, George W tells you his. He's forthright and honest about his mistakes and in hindsight, what he would do better. He shows his humanitarian side and how he feels about all the people of the earth, but especially Americans. If you couldn't tell, I'm a big George W. fan and supported most of his decisions. He knows he human but he made the best decisions he could, with the info he had at the time. For those of you who are Bush supporters, this book will prove your instincts correct. For those of you who are not, the book may just show you a different side of Bush you haven't considered. He writes in a down to earth manner that is easy to read and sometimes very funny.
This book was an interesting, considered, and fair dipiction of the Bush administration's approach to running the country. Certainly there were trying times, and mistakes (as viewed by the administration) where acknowledged, and openly discussed or reviewed. Overall it was an easy read, and quite revealing as applied to the "damn if you do, and damn if you don't" aspect of being President of the United States. President Bush comes off as being much more complex of a person than expected, which made for a strong draw to continue reading. Enjoy the book.....
This is an amazing inside look at the real George Bush. It was very easy to fall into the media trap of the "simple cowboy", but there is nothing simple about George Bush. Come to think of it, nothing about the life of a rugged, all around good guy cowboy is easy. From the families humble beginnings, to the presidential years of this family, the book outlines the ins and outs of everything behind the scene. It answers lingering questions that the conservative has about things that may have appeared questionable because of the media distortion. From a spiritual standpoint, it is obvious where George Bush is, and will be going. Candid, splendid and in touch, Thank you President Bush for an excellent inside look at the real you, and the family that lead has contributed so much to this wonderful country that we call America.Read full review
I wanted to know more about our President who was so controversial during his 2 terms in office. I love the fact that he is comfortable and openly speaks about his faith and religion, sometimes matters like this don't mix with polititcs. I decided to buy it on EBAY because it was a hard to find item used and new was too expensive. It is a long term reading experierence since it is around 400 pages, but is worth the time spent. This book is in his own words not something somebody else wrote. It brings you very up-close and personal with George W. Bush.
I first have to admit that I am a bit bias in that I felt GWB was a fantastic president that had to deal with a tremendous amount of adversity throughout his years of service in office. What I respected most was his taking a position on a specific issue, and staying the course. If the decision was wrong, he took the responsibility for it. I wanted to read this book to get a look into what lay behind some of those decisions. The book allowed insight into many decisions and has only cemented the respect that I have for the 43rd president of the USA. This book reflects on not only the challenges he faced, the decisions to combat them and the outcome of some, but also gives a glimpse into his personal history which helps the reader understand the morality of the man making those decisions. I think that it is a fantastic book that is well written and will be a huge asset to history.Read full review
