This model Rugby is a smart phone wanna be. It has wifi internet and text messaging. However, the screen is to small for internet, and to text message one must laboriously use the key pad. There is no way to use voice texting, this is a big disappointment.

This phone is not up to the standards of the previous models. Samsung has tried to cram so much extra stuff into the operating system that this phone does nothing well. It is as tough as the older models, but not as user friendly. They have set up the PTT button so you can assign it any function, but if you dont, you get an annoying nag screen every time you accidentaly push it which is often. I would not recommend this phone to anyone who has used the previous model. Try to find a rugby 2 or 3 instead

The firmware on this phone fixed a number of the problems that plagued my Rugby III. However the overall dimensions are slightly larger, despite the keypad, screen, camera and battery being exactly the same. The '4' is 4G network ready, though that doesn't seem to have improved my signal reception at all. Every action, every tool, every function is a bit faster, but requires one more button press to get there. Overall, it's a good phone, and if you are coming from some other feature-phone platform you probably won't notice any of the shortcomings. They stand out to me since I came from a Rugby 3.

... but then I have very simple tastes when it comes to cellphones. It is as advertised ... rugged and reliable. I bought this used one because the ear-piece speaker on the one I had had failed, callers being barely audible, regardless of the volume setting. Before the replacement arrived (which it did promptly) mine began working normally again. Go figure ... maybe they're so good that they can actually fix themselves!?! Anyway ... it's always good to have a spare on hand. :-)

This phone is very comparable to The Rugby 3 with the exception that the battery life is terrible. Being my only phone, by the end of the day, the battery is practically dead. Had to get some replacement batteries and keep them handy. The phone itself is very rugged and for that reason, I'm pleased with the purchase because I'm rough with every cell phone I ever owned.
