Thinkpad W541 - Solid Performer - Excellent Value
I have been using the Thinkpad W541 for about 3 weeks now. The keyboard is easy to type on and the keys feel good. It is missing a backlight however. The CPU is super fast and compiles programs with Visual Studio faster than my Dell XPS15. The trackpad is good. I like it better than the MacBook Pro trackpad clones. The Trackpoint is a nice bonus. With 32GB of RAM and a 500GB solid state disk this laptop is an excellent value (not much in this price range gives the same performance). The battery life is only average with the 6 cell battery. It is a workstation laptop though so this was expected. Also the AC adapter is large. The only complaint I have is that there is no charging light to indicate when the laptop is charging the battery when plugged in and the lid is closed. I think the engineers forgot that one. In fact the status LEDs (or lack there of) could use some rethinking. In summary this laptop is an excellent value for someone looking for a workstation class laptop.
