Horror hides behind an attractive face in The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde's tale of a notorious Victorian libertine and his life of evil excesses. Though Dorian's hedonistic indulgences leave no blemish on his ageless features, the painted portrait imbued with his soul proves a living catalogue of corruption, revealing in its every new line and lesion the manifold sins he has committed.

SynopsisHorror hides behind an attractive face in The Picture of Dorian Gray , Oscar Wilde's tale of a notorious Victorian libertine and his life of evil excesses. Though Dorian's hedonistic indulgences leave no blemish on his ageless features, the painted portrait imbued with his soul proves a living catalogue of corruption. Desperate to hide the physical evidence of his unregenerate spirit, Dorian will stop at nothing, not even murder, to keep his picture's existence a secret. A scandalous story when it was first published in 1890, Wilde's novel is acknowledged as a landmark of literature today and a tale emblematic of its time.
Just to start off, if you are looking for a genuine leather or bonded leather book, this isn't what you want. This is part of B&N's new collection of collectible books that are bound in a leatherette or vellum cover, are about an inch shorter than the leather bound's and don't have the gold gilded pages. I knew this in advance, therefore I am happy with the value and price I paid. If you don't need leather, then this is a gorgeous book for you. The color of the cover (I got the purple edition, there seems to be two other colors out there) is beautiful, and the lettering on the front is just the bee's knees. This was an amazing story for me growing up about desire, vanity and madness. I am very impressed with this edition, and very happy I made this purchase!
