  • One of the best Jedi era mobiles

One of the best mobiles that Motorola put out in the 90s, you still see them in service today. Great for ham or SAR work since they are legal on narrowband FM. If you want to program yourself you'll need to get the right equipment, not expensive if you hack at it, a 32bit win XT box with a real RS-232 port, a Motorola RIB (radio interface box) and the right cable for the MCS2000. If you don't have the parts laying around then that will be about $50 if you have the computer. The software can be found on the net or bought off ebay for about $30. What you will end up with is a killer mobile VHF rig that puts out 60w on low power and 110 on high. 14 char alpha display, zones, multiple PL tones, and a radio that you know will last you decades. I consider this model one of the last real public service grade radios that big M made. The remote head will fit nicely in a DIN stereo hole in your car. The audio with the stock speaker is outstanding. The radio doesn't know what intermod is, quiet driving through the city even without an RX PL set. This is the radio that the county sheriff relied on out in the sticks.
