    great reciever for the money

this vsx-90 is awesome i also have the previous model the vsx-80 so there isn't much of a difference between the 90 and 80 but some minor things that were not included on the 80 like Bluetooth wireless lan and no atmos etc and such. the sound quality is very good. i was checking reviews for several different makers and pioneer kept coming up with 4 and 5 stars and i already owned a older elite and was very happy with it. Only gripe i have is. It hates my phones bluetooth for some reason. my ipod works fine on it whatever right. Not the stereos fault. The hdmi switching is alot quicker than the vsx-80 as well. I also had pass through issues with the vsx-80 i haven't had any of those issues with the vsx-90. much smoother refined than the vsx-80. the 90 has no bugs what so ever that i have found. i already used the atmos and it sounds fantastic. im using polk monitor 40's polk monitor 30's all around with a H&K 10 inch powered sub and it sounds amazing and clear. I highly recommend this receiver

    VSX-90 Pioneer Elite Receiver

This is a good receiver, but it's doesn't have the power to (100 watts per channel) maintain a home theater set up that demands as much as mine does. I have 9 speakers and a 350 watt subwoofer. When cranking up the volume, the receiver just couldn't output the power needed for such a set up and would shut off. This receiver would be a great choice for a den or family room set up. Fortunately for me, I was able to exchange it from the vendor that I purchased it from when I explained my situation above. I opted for the Pioneer Elite SC-95 ($1199.99) which outputs 135 watts per channel. I would HIGHLY recommend the SC-95 for a more demanding home theater set up. It is an unbelievable receiver! The sound and video quality is off the charts!

  • Amazing Unit

I was needing to replace a Denon unit that crapped out after just over two years, and wanted to get something that could handle a dual zone setup. Some reviews said the setup was complicated but if you have even the smallest clue about stereo stuff it is a breeze with the ipad app. The control app you can get for Pioneer units works very well and makes it simple to control whatever input you want to control from your phone or tablet. I was used to my Denon which was hit and miss at best when trying to run Airplay for iTunes but this unit has been running flawlessly going between Airplay, Bluetooth, and Pandora. Overall the great price I got for the unit made this even sweeter but I can attest that this is a very solid receiver for many different setups.

  • Great mid-level AVR

I was pleased enough with the VSX-70, that I didn't hesitate upgrading to the VSX-90 when I realized that for true 4K, I needed a unit with HDCP 2.2 capability. Also, with the 90, I could opt for Atmos technology if I so chose. Set-up again was a breeze, however when setting up the auto room calibration, after 2 different tries, I kept getting speaker 'out-of-phase' errors. Even though I knew I had everything correct, it did force me to double check my speaker wiring just to be sure. So I'm not sure if this is a significant problem or not since I simply ignored it as the OSD indicated. I use my AVR basically as a switcher with all my components coming into it & then (1) out to my display & then using my Harmony remote to control everything. This is a great receiver with great sound that has everything I should ever need as to future upgrades/technology & btw, I got it at a great price!. I should point out that even though it has plenty of HDMI inputs, only the first (3) are HDCP 2.2, which is a fact not mentioned anywhere in the user guide or even online descriptions. So if you have a need for an AVR that will accommodate more than (3) 4K external components, you'll have to go elsewhere.

  • Great Sounds, Dolby Atmos

I got this receiver to replace an aging Pioneer VSX-94TXH. This receiver is rated at 40w less per channel, but you wouldn't know it. Everything sounds more powerful. The connectivity is great including the direct streaming. Very happy with all the features for the money, and am getting ready to add my Dolby Atmos spec speakers.

  • lacking in power

I've always been an avid pioneer fan whether it's in my camaro, or at home. I expected a little more from pioneer on this buy. As far as inputs and features, I couldn't be happier! But, where's the bold pioneer power we've all grown to love? I found this receiver very lacking in power and even with smaller speakers, the sound quality is very dissapointing.

  • Improved the sound of my family room home theater

This is a great reciever with tons of bells and whistles to compliment all of my streaming devices and home theater gear. I am able to use the iOS app to control it and tune the sound for specific content (dialog emphasis). 2 HDMI outputs means I can have a projector and a TV hooked up or send the output to a capture device for game capture.

  • A great receiver!

I purchased an open box from Best Buy that had been returned by a customer. The only thing that I discovered was wrong with it was the microphone port was defective. The previous owner apparently tried to use it as a headset port for his/her iPhone. Not a good idea. I have 6 orb satellite speakers with a 12 " powered subwoffer that I set up in a 5.1 array and the sound and surround was excellent for both movies and music. I would have kept the unit but I found a great deal on ebay and purchased that instead for just 50.00 more than I paid for the open box. I can't find anything negative to say about it. It is esthetically attractive, utilizes all of the new technology, and enhanced connectivity with built-in Bluetooth® and dual-band 2.4 and 5.8 GHZ WiFi. With HDCP 2.2 compatibility and true 3-dimensional sound with Dolby Atmos®, It has plenty of power.

  • Unbelievable Receiver

This receiver is not to be confused with another Pioneer by the same name. This receiver features 7.2 channels, Dolby Atmos, Bluetooth & much more. Easy setup, great sound, 7 hdmi inputs & 2 hdmi outputs- great for dual monitors in the same room or a second room. Tons of bells & whistles. More bang for your buck than anything out there. Plus it's Pioneer Elite quality. It kills my Yamaha

  • Great sound, great price

This is a premier receiver and a new model with a MRP of $700. Set up is via computer and is amazingly simple and fast. I have it connected to my TV, Roku, iPod, and Blu-Ray player. There is still room for several other connections. I am considering getting a micro PC. The set-up microphone adjusted everything for the best sound according to room acoustics, distance of speakers from listening position, proper adjustment for flat response, and more. I am very pleased with this receiver and would recommend it to anyone. Plus it looks elegant too.
