Recorder was not tested before being sent to me. The recorder came on and was able to set time and everything. When you push the record button to record red light comes on but records nothing. Just silence only. Big waste of money.

The device worked better than I had expected. I have used a Panasonic voice recorder for the last four years and have enjoyed using it. When it went kaput, I searched eBay for one that I could replace it with. This Sony Digital Voice Recorder filled the job. To my surprise, I am able to use the MP3 files it produces with my Dragon NaturallySpeaking program. The power drain on this recorder is much less than the Panasonic version I had gotten used to. I am able to record much more on this recorder as well. There are a couple aspects that I do not like about the device. First, when I plug it into my computer, I am not able to see it as an external hard drive. But I can access the device through the program provided to transfer it to my computer. Second, the program that comes with the device conflicts with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. I got my voice to text program to work after getting out of the program and rebooting the computer. This just means I have to use the Digital Voice Editor 3 when I want to transfer the recordings to my computer. And if I want to use my Dragon NaturallySpeaking, I need to make sure I do not try to open the program at the same time I have the Digital Voice Editor running. Otherwise, I think this is an excellent product. It has a few more features that my other digital voice recorder does not have. I now have an easy way of transferring some of my music that came on cassette to my computer with the recorder's stereo input. Very sensitive mic & picks up very well in most conditions. Has very good playback & can be easily used to record phone conversations including cell phones when the right mic is used. Good size & Very dependable.
