Great Ribbon Microphone
I tested this on vocals and then my acoustic guitar in a very large live acoustically treated room. All that I can say is that I was very pleased with the results. This mic without any mods, sounds great right out of the box. I am going to buy two more so I can have three. Then I will mod only one. This mic is great for creamy and smooth crooners. True singers will benefit from using it. And spoken word also. However. I wouldn't recommend it for most rappers bc it is a 'singers' mic or room mic. If you desire a mic for rappers, use a SM-58 or a nice condenser mic. My 2cents🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊

Sweet mics
I bought two of thd MXL R144 HE ribbon mics to have matched pair for use while milti-tracking drums as over heads and as room mics also with violin and piano warm sexy bass if cut at 100hz slightly and boosted around 2Khz thrse mics perform well at a fraction of the cost all with out losing that smooth ribbon sound. These mics look gorgeous an the shovkmounts provided are excellent quality. A little heads up: When the shock bands begin to lose their tension replace them with the included spare shock bands or strong hair ties. I highly recommend these mics and this vendor

Needs high quality preamp.
Good entry level ribbon mic. but very low output. Don't even think about it unless you have a very high output, good quality preamp or a Cloudlifter.
