Alpha protocol is Obsidian's attempt to make a modern action-thriller, with rpg elements. With an IP controlled by Sega, it's unlikely to see a new installment. Tactically, it's uneven. Sniper rifles are always one-shot kills but cannot be carried, Missile Launchers do damage against vehicles but can, SMGs are dual wielded and work by saturating the zip code with bullets, and certain 60 year old men perform ballet and ignore gunshot wounds. some weapons and skills are so universally effective that the inclusion of the others is slightly insulting. The characters are complex and multifaceted, which is a welcome surprise. Unfortunately, the protagonist is fixed, and however you play him, comes across as an unabashed jerk, albeit with a sympathetic goal. At least you can grow his beard out. There's a lot of incentive for repeat playthroughs, but much of it is low hanging fruit. This game is worth playing for what IT IS, but what it wasn't would be a whole lot more enticing.Read full review

Alpha Protocol for the PS3 is a good game in the spy/espionage genre. There are multiple ways to play through the game, and lots of good voice acting help accentuate the entertaining story. However, a player should be aware that certain issues due pop up in the game. Graphical pop-in does occur, some choices made aren't properly acknowledged in the game, and ranged combat can be a bit wonky for people used to other 3rd person shooting systems. Overall, it one is willing to deal with some difficulties, Alpha Protocol is worth a good playthrough.

Worth playing through 1 time. The good: Decent story. Outcome can be changed a little. Fun shooter action. Campaign time 12 + hours The best part: The locations are in different parts of the world. This makes each group of levels look completely different then the others. The bad: The crouch or sneak function puts you in a bent over position that will actually make your back hurt. There are some jerky loads. Not a lot, just enough to notice. The game locked up two or three times requiring reboot. Overall this game is good fill while waiting for something better to come out. There is nothing special or new that you haven’t seen in other shooters. Just a well rounded game that keeps you having a good time for the last 3/4th of the game. My rating 7
What a great game! This is a spy story about an agent who has to go rogue (think Jason Bourne) and avoid being hunted down by his former employer....while trying to unroll a huge conspiracy and get revenge on the same former employer who tried to use him and dispose of him after they were done. It has a well written story and plot with fun missions and decisions that can alter the way the game flows and ends. These decisions also either build reputation between you and other characters or ruin reputation between you and other characters....depending on your choice of dialogue. Letting someone live or killing them can make a major difference in the game and will affect whether you can forge alliances with certain people or groups or not. I thought the game had very good voice acting and characters that I cared about and rooted for. It has a skill upgrade system that works well and allows you to choose which skills you want to spend your AP points on. Some of the skills are really cool. I used Chain Shot quite a bit to take out batches of bad guys. There are also a variety of puzzles to crack safes, hack computers, etc. These are to acquire money or hardware for your guns or spy gadgets. The puzzles do get a little repetitive but they don't become a total drag. Each of the 3 main areas of the game has a safe house for you to check email, upgrade your weapons and protective gear or buy new weapons and purchase needed Intel for missions. You'll want to collect as much money as you can for hardware upgrades for your weapons and upgrades to your protective gear....plus I recommend buying as much Intel for each mission as you can afford. The elements of stealth, armed combat and hand to hand combat are well done and aren't set in stone. You can avoid armed confrontations in many cases by using stealth to take out the enemies....either sneaking up and choking them out or using a silencer on your weapon or a tranquilizer dart. There are camera systems to avoid and disable. There are automated machine gun turrets to avoid and lots of bad guys too. The control of the main character is a little clunky at first but I got used to it pretty quickly. It didn't detract from the game play at all for me. I bought this several years ago and never played it. I was going through some games trying to decide what to play next and ran across this. I popped it in my PS3 and couldn't put it down. I don't know why I never tried it until now...but I'm glad I finally did. If you like Metal Gear games, Deus Ex games and Splinter Cell games....give this a try. For me it was the best and most well put together spy game I've ever played. It is definitely unique and left me wanting more. I recommend starting the game from scratch as a recruit and building out your skill trees the way you want as you earn AP. There are other classes of character you can be also. You can also start the game as a Soldier, Field Agent, Freelancer or Tech Specialist with pre-set skills....but you can re-arrange your skill points any way you want them. The reason to start as a recruit class character is that it's the only way to play as a Veteran class character after you finish the game and play a New Game+. And it's definitely worth a second go round because of the different choices and endings and trophies available in the game. You won't play the game the same way the second time through. Overall, I would give this game a 8.5 to 9 out of 10. It has all of the right ingredients for those who enjoy playing the spy genre of video games. It's flaws are few and not a factor in my opinion. If you still have a PS3, grab this game and give it a whirl. It's about 5 bucks now and you get a whole lot of entertainment for very little money. What a sleeper hit of a game...and a whole lot of fun to play.Read full review

This game is surprisingly very good. There are a lot of missions. It takes a little time to get through this game, that’s good. Some of the newer games are getting a bit too short. The game play and graphics are a bit dated. The movement of your character is like an old Tomb Raider game. But I have to say that this is a good game and fun to play.
