This book is great if you do not believe in letting your baby "cry it out." I love how the author approaches the subject of sleep by first telling you to do what you would normally do to put your baby to sleep and then to gradually incorporate her suggestions. Great for parents who co-sleep too. I really like this book... the only reason it got four stars from me is because it takes awhile to get to the "meat" of the book. You are about halfway through before the author gives you the specifics for putting your baby to sleep. Other than that, a definite A+!!
I decided to give this book a try after 11 long months of trying other methods to get my son to sleep through the night. I was so anxious to learn this miraculous way of getting your child to sleep without crying. When the book arrived, I was shocked to find out that by the author's definition, my son WAS sleeping through the night (5 hours at a time)! I was about to toss the book, but decided to give some of the suggestions a try to see if they might possibly help my son sleep the desired 10 hours a night that I was hoping for. The book has two sections, one designed for babies up to 4 months and then one section for babies beyond 4 months. Since my son was 11 months at the time, I didn't even read the other section, so I cannot vouch for that part of the book. However, I used several of the suggestions from the older babies section, and to my delight, they worked! Almost instantly! It really was amazing. The difference it has made in our lives is worth so much more than the few dollars I spent on this book. My son did have to cry a little (maybe a minute or two), but nothing like the wailing that used to rip my heart out when I was trying the cry-it-out method. I don't know if I'm allowed to say this in the review or not, but the one suggestion that helped us the most was moving bedtime up. I learned to watch for signals that he was tired and then I would put him to bed right away. I learned there is a small "window of opportunity" so to speak where a baby is tired, but not overly tired and will go right to sleep. The author also provides her email which is a nice touch. It's a great book, and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a gentler way to get their little one to sleep through the night.Read full review
I have 4 kids all very different. They all slept through the night at different stages, 1st at 3months, 2nd at 3 weeks, 3rd at 6 months and the newest addition hasn't slept a wink at night! This book it truely a gift from god! It teaches you how the baby's internal clock works and their sleeping patterns to help you get your child to sleep without letting them "scream it out". When there is a book out there that teaches you how to get your little miracle to sleep without damaging her relationship with you why not get the book?! Babies don't understand anything but their EMOTIONS! So how do you think they feel when you put them to bed to "scream it out"? They are terrified and confused as to why you the person who is supposed to love and care for their every need is now abandoning them when all they need is attention, love, and care! Babies are the greatest gift in the world...cherish them!Read full review
I bought this on recommendation from my parenting website. It is a pretty good book as it doesn't give you the same 2 answers to a child not sleeping through the night. It makes you realize that you are not alone in our feelings about the subject. Personally I only marginally used it as I bought it a little late in the game. I definately recommend buying it early on to keep from getting to a boiling point with the lack of sleep.
I liked the book because it has a lot of information and the concept is good but any mom that is not a single or first time mom simply doesn't have the time to follow the steps in the book. I have a son who is 18 months older than his sister and can't spend hours trying to get my child to sleep. We used baby wise with him and he's a great sleeper. We started that with her, although I did want to go the no cry route, and now she's a good sleeper as well. Really great facts and information regarding sleep though.
