I, like most people find the thought of death, cemeteries and other final resting places to be somewhat discomforting to think about. However in this tremendous photographic journey, along with text and detailed thoughts and beliefs from Dean Koontz, I have found peace and contentment in knowing that the monuments, statues, headstones and other forms of markers to honor the dead are just that, in honor of the dead. When we depart from this world in death our souls depart and move on to a better place. This book shows how the living pay tribute to those that have gone on before us. This book with the fantastic images and outstanding writing of two very talented individuals, manage to bring a kind of comfort in thinking of death and the final resting spots that one day we will all be part of. I found this book, photos and writing to be very enlightening. And gained a certain peace that I had not had before.Read full review
The photograph's of mostly French cemeteries is stunning. The commentary is very compelling, interesting subject matter. Not a morbid read, subject matter is handled tastefully and respectfully. Nice to see how other cultures and in other times viewed death and burial.
