It's a great system, and I'm really happy with it. only issue that I had with it was the hookup; I upgraded from an HT-J4500 system, so I was ready and this one was easy. my hookup issue: in spite of talking with a Samsung rep the weekend before, I still got the system home and found that I couldn't do my 'standard' cable box to home theatre to TV connections with a pair of HDMI cables, as I had done with the Sony system that I replaced. instead, I had to use a component cable from the cable box to the TV, and a fiber optic cable from the TV to the J5500; then an HDMI from the J5500's single 'HDMI Out' port to the TV. I still get great picture and sound from the HT sound system; quality is good, and the value was great.

It's a good system and can connect on-line. I've owned three of them over the years. Unfortunately, I've never had one go more than 2 years without some issue. I've always bought mine through "Best Buy" and added the 3 Year Extended Warranty to them. Best Buy will either fix it or replace it, but be prepared to bring the entire system to the Geek Squad (which is a real pain). Average turn around time is 2-3 weeks. I recently bought a new system on-line but after installing it and running all of the wiring, the thing only played from one of the 6 speakers. Unusual for it to not work right out of the box, but that doesn't make the aggravation any better. AND, it took longer to get the components disconnected and back into the original box for return shipping than it did to originally hook it upRead full review

This is a reasonable, decent quality product. It is mainly designed as a internet streaming device as far as its connectivity. There is only (1) HDMI output - no inputs. A cable DVR can only be directly connected to the HDTV and stereo (only) from cable/DVR connected to the units RCA input plugs - in my case. I live in a rural area and use both satelite TV (DirecTV) and internet service (Excede). The INET service is bandwidth-limited - so streaming is not an option as primarily intended for the unit. In order to view the amp/tuner menu and the cable/DVR menu on TV, I had to purchase a multi-input, single-output HDMI converter. Setup is a big hassle - the end result requires (4) remote controls - definitely not user-friendly. On the plus side - if you have a non-bandwidth limited internet and stream everything - this may be what you want, as internet connectivity is well thought out. The seller provided excellent service - this is a Samsung design issue and affected me in my circumstances.Read full review

Stereo system is good, however lacks the power and bass it should for a 1000w home theater system. Had a 2011 Sony system that I actually was replacing and after one day, the Sony is back as the main home theater, while this Samsung is downstairs for the kids to use. Overall, good price and quality equipment. Also note, system comes with standard Cinavia protection. If you are streaming or using certain Bluray discs, sound or playback will be stopped.

Bought this Samsung HT-J5500W to replace my Sony home theater system which I had nothing but problems with since the day I bought it. I've only had the Samsung HT-J5500W up and running for about a week now. So far I really like it. Good quality sound and lots of features that I like and apps. I'm not a fan of the rear "wireless" speakers. My house was already wired for surround sound so I ended up cutting the speaker wires they supplied and splicing them into my current wires. It's a bit silly having the rear speaker wires running all the way to the back of the main unit only to be connected to an additional box which then receives the signal only inches away.....oh well....it still works but would have been nice if they would have just given you the option to do it either way (Wireless or hard wired). It's a little hard to adjust the sound equalizer as you have to go into the settings to make changes but you can't play music at the same time......so you spend a lot of time jumping around in the menu options to get the sound just the way you like it for your room and style of music. They have several pre-canned you can use like deep base, loud, night, gaming....etc....I just didn't like the way they sounded in my space so I had to do some tweaking. The live streaming is nice. We only have 12mb/sec internet speed and the movies stream without any issues. Fast forwarding and rewinding was a bit slow but not a big deal. Playing Blu-ray is the highlight of this system....the sound and video quality is amazing.....streaming movies is ok but nothing compared to the discs. So I give it 4 stars as it has good sound but still room for improvement with the menu and the speaker wiring. Read full review
