Great platform to use while Microsoft grows Windows 10!
I bought this phone to experiment with as Microsoft grows their Windows 10 mobile product but I wouldn't replace my iPhone with this. It's not the same class of hardware or software. I use this phone as a WiFi only device. The large 5.7 inch screen is a pleasure to work with. The battery does last all day. The rest of the software specs are otherwise unspectacular. good for transitioning
So I just came from a slide phone. I've resisted getting a smart phone for a while because I don't use my phone like most people do. I am slowly learning the phone. It's a big learning curve for me. That being said, I like that you can do voice commands for email. It is pretty accurate. I like that I know windows, and so I can get around. I haven't had it long enough to comment on the battery life. It doesn't die real quick, I can say that. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a phone, and this was real reasonable. Some things I don't care for are that it is big. No putting this one in dress pants, etc. It seems that this might have been a good phone when it was in its prime. I think the prime is done with all the others out there now. I had to go to internet to get a case as no one around here carries them for a Lumia. Also, AT&T had a time getting my contacts over at the store. No way could we do it over the phone. After a lot of time, I have most of my contacts. And I had a very patient girl to help me. All in all, for what I needed, it will work. This smartphone was shipped in excellent condition ( no scratches on screen or body of phone) and works just great. It has been well designed and is quite dependable. Easy to unlock by looking up specialists online who will unlock it for a minimal price. The speaker has a very good volume and enables even those a little hard of hearing to hear very well. Big but manageable in my hands
Though the Lumia 640XL is bigger than a normal cell phones, it is not completely unmanageable in my hands. It did take a bit of getting use to but after a while, reconditioning myself, I found it manageable. I consider my hands to be of average size and do admit that this cell phone could feel uncomfortable to use in smaller hands. The larger screen area has made it easier to interact with websites and also filling out forms in PDF format. All images are crystal clear on its screen making it easier on the eyes. Upgrading from a Nokia Lumia 920 to the Lumia 640XL has been a breeze though I do miss the dedicated camera button on the side. The added camera zoom capability is a welcomed feature. Overall use experience has been good. This phone is on the Windows 10 Mobile OS READY upgrade list. Great phone
Seriously for the price this is great. I've had previous windows phones and this is a great deal. Spend less than $100 on an older phone that allows you to text, talk, take pictures, browse the internet and listen to music....or spend on $800 or more on a fancy new phone? Nope no thank you. So many apps available too. Cameras are great. Speaker could be louder for listening to music but I usually can just plug it into a little speaker and problem is solved. Bluetooth works great. Awesome Phone for the Money
Not sure what small form factor means so I didn't answer that question. However, I find the phone to be a great value for the money. While many apps I would like to download to the phone are currently unavailable to the Windows operating system, it is still a very well built phone and seems to be a solid operating system never the less. The camera takes very nice pictures and video. The phone is larger than the 640 but I can see things more clearly and text easier as well. No complaints about the phones performance so far. While iPhones have gained the lions share of apps availability in the market place the Windows phones do the job with what is available at this time. I would like to see Microsoft develop better apps for the Windows platform but it's all about money in the end and they make more money devoting their efforts for the iPhones and the android phones. Plus on a negative note, unless you buy a Windows phone that is already installed with Windows 10 you can forget about updating your phone to the new platform, it is simply not available yet. Which means Office 2016 cannot be installed or synced. All you have is OneDrive. Not what I was expecting. Anyway for the price it serves its purpose, until more money is made available to purchase a better phone. As they say, newer technology comes with a hefty price tag. Almost forgot to mention, make the investment in a Micro SD Card, this phone allows up to a 128GB card. Picked one up for under $50.00. Frees up a lot of space on the phone. For well under a $100.00 bucks I say that I clearly came out a winner. Got a cheap monthly plan with no contract. Good phone, great camera, awful phablet
Frequent spontaneous reboots and crashes, insufficient RAM to run some apps. Windows 10 upgrade keeps failing. Windows Feedback ignores my responses to their queries. But for a very small amount of money, it is a thin phone with a huge screen and the Lumia camera app has great controls and gets wonderful results. No problems at all with core phone connection, calling and texting functions, etc. Extreme long battery life. Really needed more than 1GB RAM. Won't run Where's My Bus at all, nor Facebook more than a few moments before it crashes, if it loads at all. A little too big but otherwise ok
I bought this phone for my wife who lost her Lumia 640 to an accident. She is technologically challenged and has a hard time learning how to operate new gadgets. She wanted another 640 but all I could find were grossly overpriced. She wanted to stick with Windows 8.1 so it would be familiar to her. This phone fit the bill in all those areas. Her only complaint is that the 640 XL is too big. She has to charge the battery every day, but that is not all that uncommon for a smart phone.
