This CD is great. First, I was a little skeptical when Carrie Underwood's CD came out in what seemed like record time after her American Idol win. However it is proving to be a fantastic CD. The song Jesus Take the Wheel, makes me turn the radio up and sing every time but then so does Don't Forget to Remember Me and the Next Time He Cheats. Jesus Take the Wheel isn't so much a religious song as it is a stop and take stock of what it is going on in our life song. Don't Forget to Remember Me brings me back to when I first left home. Of course my situation was different but the bills were mine and I know I told my family I was fine even when I was eating peanut butter and bread sandwiches for every meal. The song I Ain't in Checotah Anymore lets us see a side of Carrie that may not come out in other songs. It is also a play on word for We're not in Kansas Anymore. It is cute and catchy. My final pick for this album was The Next Time He Cheats. Wow! That is a powerful song with lots of irony. It is also a complete turn around from some of her other songs. It just gives her more dimension. First, she is young, sweet, and sexy and then she shows that she has some backbone too! This album is a total product. The voice is there, the range is there, and the song choices are just ...'sweet'!Read full review
I admit that Carrie's CD is the first one of the American Idols that I have purchased, even though I have watched that show every year. I love this CD, and play it often. She does have a very clear, melodious sound to her voice, and she can hit just about any note given to her. I think that my favorite song is the one called Before he cheats.. It is a really FUN track. My mouth just fell open when I listened to it the first time. It has been a long time since I listened to music with a country flair, and this girl has definitely got that going on! However, the other tracks are just as nice. Some of them can bring a girl to tears.. Jesus, Take the Wheel, Don't forget to remember me, whenever you remember, I can't live a lie.. all of those songs are definitely songs to pull the emotion out and make a listener think.. I cannot say enough good things about Carrie Underwood.. :) She isn't in Checotah anymore, true enough.. Checotah's loss is American's gain!Read full review
Do I live on another planet than the other reviewers? I can't believe all the hype about Carrie Underwood. She has looks and a good voice, but so what? So do hundreds of other singers. She isn't a stand-out at all in my opinion, much less a star, and many of her songs remind me of ones my grandmother would listen to. Many of the songs, like the singer, try much too hard to be catchy and commercial. She asks listeners to believe she's "been there" and felt life kick her in the gut. But give me a break -- she's a kid who hasn't a clue about what it really feels like to have a broken heart, to be living a life that turned out much sadder than she planned ... she just hasn't lived enough life enough to be believable. There's no soul, no depth to her singing. I can't believe she's taken seriously. Do listeners really believe she is on the same caliber as Martina McBride, Leanne Womack, Trisha Yearwood or the great Dolly Parton? If she's still around in 5 years, I'll be shocked. She's been "made" into who she is -- she just isn't authentic.Read full review
I got this cd for my wife. I am not a fan of country music as a whole. That having been said, I can appreciate good music from any genre. The big hit Jesus Take the Wheel is a good song. I even thought about getting shivers down my spine. But as far as I can see, thats about the only meritorious one on the album. The rest is filled with cliches and lackluster melody or content (see: 'Starts with Goodbye'). Not to even broach the subjct of juvenile chord progressions and arrangement. The formula is this- create a simple song for a good singer to go buck on. Last comment, does it seem inappropriate to anyone else to put "Jesus Take the Wheel" on the same album with s song about drunken love-gone-wrong valdalism and revenge? Maybe its just me......Girls, go for it, guys-your girlfriend will love it.Read full review
?Some Hearts?. First let me say that I have been buying music for a good 35 years now. I have bought many Albums? that had 1 or 2 good songs on it that I liked. Thank you for creating Itunes. I?ve love buying Greatest hits CD because it?s a collection of all the best songs of several albums. When I heard Some Hearts for the 1st time I thought to myself, man I?ve not found a song on here that I don?t enjoy. This reminds me of a Greatest hits CD from an artist that?s been around the block a few times. This CD is laid out very nicely. It?s a beautiful mixture of Country music that naturally crossover to other charts. The CD flows beautifully from start to finish. Each song tells a story that I can relate to an experience in my life. The golden egg on here is Carries Voice!, WOW does it really shine. She has an amazing recording voice. She can take an average song and make it sound really beautiful. In all honesty, this is by far the best Debut CD I?ve ever bought from a new artist in my entire life. Carries voice is simply amazing! WOW 5 Stars!Read full review

Like all American Idol produced albums, there is always some inconsistency with production and etc... There is the slightest bit of this on Carrie's album. We first began to truly see this with Fantasia's exceptional debut, Ruben sophomore effort (better than his debut Soulful), and of course multi-platinum pop-rocker Kelly Clarkson's Grammy deserving Breakaway. SOME HEARTS presents a truly credible country album without the American Idol aspect attached, which may mark the first American Idol debut to officially shed that image. Carrie's debut is just as expected-a country set that has some pop sensibilities. The emphasis is on some because for the most part, this album will appeal to those who loved Carrie on American Idol as well as those who love a good country album. The pop sensibility comes with such a track as the excellent "Some Hearts" which features driving guitars, slick production and Carrie rising to a high E. Despite that, Carrie sings her heart out on this appropriate title track. On her opening track "Wasted", as with ever American Idol album, Carrie's grabs the audience's attention with a well written selection that shows off Carrie's pure upper register. That is followed by an incredibly country influenced "Don't Forget to Remember Me", which isn't a bad track, but it slightly lessens the heightened momentum created by the great "Wasted". Nonetheless, that is where "Some Hearts" and the touching first single "Jesus Take The Wheel," which is made of a stunning piano, string, and electric guitar driven arrangement, throw the album back into full swing. Other notable highlights from SOME HEARTS include "Before He Cheats" which uses a bluesy production sound mixed with the first time that I've personally heard Carrie achieve some much needed grit to her pure voice. Selections "Whenever Your Remember" and "I Ain't in Chocatoe No More" also steal the show. There are some other tracks of less notability, yet it is important to note that this album is consistent for the most part lending many great tracks besides the major ones such as "We're Young and Beautiful" and "Starts with Goodbye". While this album has a few flaws (Carrie over sings slightly on "When you're Beautiful"), for the most part it is well produced, Carrie's pitch is impeccable, and it is just a fine, well rounded debut. Where this album is concerned- a big fat 4 stars from a non-Carrie fan for this very fine debut.Read full review
I can't tell you how many times this song has been the high light of a bad situation in my life. I've always been a country music fan. But when she came out with this one it hit home. I'm not a church going person per say. But i makes you stop and think That when it gets tough in this world, it's nice to know that instead of saying heck with it someone is there to say , hold up - wait a minute - step back and let me help. And you look back knowing that all is going to be well somewhere down the road. I keep this song with me at all times. It's even my ring tone in my phone. It is inspirational and my strength in my illness. Knowing i don't have to be alone and suffer, because if i can't take it Jesus is there to say, i can't handle it on my own , JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL. Thanks for this song for those whom needed to believe.(again)Read full review
I absolutely LOVE this cd. I didn't buy it as soon as it came out because I really thought I'd only like 1 or 2 of her songs...but when I heard "Before He Cheats" on the radio, I thought it would be worth purchasing just for that one. Boy was I wrong. To my surprise, I loved every song on this cd. She is obviously very talented. I don't care who writes the song, if the person who sings it is'nt any good it will never make it. Carrie Underwood is a TRUE star with alot of versatility and great vocal ability. She is also fun to sing along with. She has adds something great to coutry music as a new artist but also fits in well with the original country music at its finest! I love the 'old stuff' like Ronnie Milsap, Ronnie McDoewll, Earl Thomas Conley and a few of the new. She fits in well with my collection. I DEFINATELY recommend this cd!Read full review
It's like this, Some Hearts is a very good album. This album is so sticky, sweet and sappy it makes pancake syrup seem salty. But somehow it works, the American Idol winner becomes a full-fledge star. Carrie's vocals are awesome and most of the songs hold their own. The critics and some country music lovers complain about how she found her stardom. Alas, American Idol finds real talent and Carrie Underwood has real talent. She fits in fine and often better than many of today's current country music stars. The older stars in country music are just jealous that there day has passed. Carrie has star quality. Songs on the album like Wasted, Don't Forget To Remember Me, Jesus Take the Wheel, Before He Cheats and I Ain't in Checotah Anymore are some of the highlights on the album. At the end of the day, we know Carrie is a talented, genuine Star. I find myself saying this to her critics, "I have a feeling this Isn't American Idol Anymore." "Get over it, because in 10 years most of you will be saying great things about her and eating crow."Read full review
