Ever since the late 1990s, one has really been unable to think about anime without thinking of Dragonball. Mostly because it's airing in America has proven so prolific, it's popularity among anime fans is pretty much the same as it's popularity in Japan. Finally, the series has gotten a release it's deserved. The box proclaims the fifth boxset contains the 'Imperfect and Perfect Cell sagas' - which is just a fancy way of saying it's got the Cell Saga up through the time Cell announces his 'Cell Games.' So, with that said, WHAT exactly is Cell? And how do the Androids feature into this? And can anyone really take either Cell or the Androids down in the first place? When it comes to the features of this boxset... Funimation has decided to stick with the original dubs made back near 2000. This in itself is not a bad thing, as the dub by this point had become rather solid as a whole. However, the box set proclaims 'newly-revised English dialogue' but obviously does not deliver upon it at all. It's a little sad that way, but at least the dub still works great. However, I'm starting to feel like false advertising is being used now. Worse yet, where new VA work could be used, it's ignored. The future version of Gohan could well have been redubbed by Kyle Hebert, in order to give Gohan one voice for each age, but Funi didn't (similarly, the re-release of the History of Trunks movie also didn't redub). The widescreening and remastering still remains with us, obviously, and unlike the last boxset... it really pays off. Crammed with more action than the previous boxset, the fights now seem actually cinematic and are rendered as such with much more care than they were the last time. The Vegeta/Trunks vs Cell fight really pays off now, as does the Piccolo vs Android 17 fight. The camera angles combine with the widescreen feature to create a new experience perfectly. Like last time, the series can be seen in the original Japanese, in the American TV release format, or in English with the Japanese music instead. I personally prefer the TV-release music, as Brian Falkner's music almost seems to fit the series' intense action like a glove. That's not to say the Japanese music is bad, it's just my own preference. Unfortunately, still there's a complete lack of extras on these discs - aside from watching more Funimation adverts for things you already saw on the other discs because you can't skip the opening-DVD-ads. 30 bucks MSRP for 26 episodes? STILL over 6 discs? What, are you kidding me, Funimation? Look, I love DBZ. I really do. I love this set of fighting - Piccolo, Trunks and Vegeta all get to shine like diamonds, and even Tien gets to shine. However, we STILL don't have any extras and we're paying the SAME price for FEWER episodes! I wanted to give this a perfect 5. I did. But with the lack of episodic content here, I just can't. However, the price is still worth the episodes... I'm just starting to feel a little nervous about the way these things are being packaged.Read full review

Love these orange disc boxes. $20 is a good price for the amount of episodes you get. The music is the kind I’m used to from when I was a child.

Dragon Ball Z is an anime for people who like a good... and long... story and well developed characters. If youre picky about quality of animation and well translated and adapted dialog, then you'll most likely be dissapointed. The drawing is aweful, the dialog is silly, but when I first saw it on TV a decade ago when I was 12 or 13 I just look it at face value without expectations and I loved it. Ive bought all seasons 1-5 that have been released to date, and id buy 100 of them if there ever were that many. Theyre fun to watch and for me its really just about nostalgia and appreciating the things i liked when I was a kid.
I have just started watching Dragonball Z a couple months ago and I am buying one season at a time. I am up to season 5 and I must say that this season was great and one of my favorites that I have watched so far. I am glad for the uncut version of the series and like the setup menus. They are easy to read and navigate through. So if you are a DBZ fan this is a must have season and one of the best.
i bought this product for my collection also i find the original anime better than DBZ Kai because the Voices are so much better on the original, not to mention the fillers are funny as hell, ive been a lifelong fan of DBZ and i recommend this box set to anyone who loves Martial Arts/Fighting Genres or anime in general, FUN FACT: originally Broly was supposed to be the main villain in this arc Akira Toriyama designed Broly but decided not to use him and made Cell
It came fast and was perfect, tested it out first and it plays well just forgot the old dvd’s don’t have subtitles for other languages but the people I got the season for still like it for the action.

Dragonball Z season 5 is awesome. it has the incomplete cell, complete cell saga. in it cell absorbs androids 18, 19 to become complete and as powerful as he can get. As usual the Z fighters try to stop him but this time they come up short. the season ends with cell announcing that the cell games will start in 10 days thus the season ends. I can't wait to watch seasons 6,7
