  • A Long-Delayed DVD Edition of This Neat 1950s Chiller

I've waited for a high-quality home-video release of this movie for many years. Republic Pictures had it out on VHS in the 1980s but never got around to issuing it on laserdisc, and they weren't very active by the time the DVD era started. Here it is, courtesy of Olive Films, in a nice transfer with okay sound. There aren't any extras to speak of, but they're not really needed -- this is a kind of meat-and-potatoes type monster movie, akin to CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (with which it shares some production background). And the thrills, chills, and atmosphere of the late 1950s location-shot picture still come through, along with solid acting all the way through, by some top-notch radio talent in the supporting cast as well as a good male lead (the late Don Sullivan). Top honors, however, have to go to John Harmon as the lonely lighthouse keeper -- a veteran character actor with hundreds of small and supporting roles behind him, this was one of Harmon's rare starring performances. This is a long-awaited release, and one that doesn't disappoint.

  • the titile was the name of that town?

the monster was taken from the movie Creature from the Black lagoon it looks like, and its never seen in the caves or water in the film. also its strange it came out of the store in town out of nowhere. But it was different in some ways and easily knocked off the light house when on the ground 3 men found laying and they had guns, weird.
