Reviews"Inspiration and Process in Design is a growing series of monographs conveniently sized for reading and reference (not your typical coffee table behemoth). Each volume is full of colorful exhibits, spanning a wide diversity of work produced by each featured creative professional. Some contain more written insights and commentary (Louise Fili and Herbert Bayer) while others let you immerse in the visuals (Seymour Chwast and Milton Glaser). Either way, close study of the masters is always rewarded, and these slim, tastefully curated monographs are a perfect way to get started and get inspired." - CreativePro,, "Heller's book comprises a range of work sourced from Chwast's archive of unpublished children's books and cartoon illustration, a welcome reminder that the designer has always intuitively blurred the lines of design and illustration. Drawing, often thought of as an archaic and redundant activity within contemporary design, is the essential lifeblood of Chwast's work, a vast unlimited resource for visual expression with so many configurations to explore." - Eye on Design, "Subversive. Personal. Obsessive. Radical. There is no mistaking the work of Seymour Chwast....His pioneering role as a designer, author, and activist continues to influence and inspire 21st-century designers. You could say that Seymour has become a legend in our own minds. And a new book, Seymour Chwast: Inspiration and Process in Design with text by Steven Heller, clearly demonstrates the why of Seymour as a force majeur." - Design Arts Daily, "Subversive. Personal. SynopsisSeymour Chwast (1931-) is an American graphic designer known for his diverse body of work and lasting influence on visual culture. He has authored more than thirty children's books, four graphic novels, and several typefaces. In 1954, he cofounded Push Pin Studios (changed to The Pushpin Group in 1985), whose revolutionary work altered the course of contemporary graphic communication in the 1950s and 60s and continues to inspire the field of design worldwide. Chwast's work as a humorist is plainly felt in this biting collection of illustrative work. Sketches from his vast portfolio of unpublished children's books and his cartoon work, such as Karma for Kats and 1001 Beards , are accompanied by interviews by Steven Heller, which explore Chwast's motivations and process.
