Set up was really easy. Verifying the modes was confusing at first but easy enough after I actually read the instructions. It would be nice if there was a way to shut itself off when it detects blank tape / snow. It has timers to shut off after 60, 90 minutes, etc. but we don't always know how long it is. It would also help to have a trim feature to take off that very 20 minutes of black that I now have. When i do use that timer, it would be helpful to have some sort of a reminder, beep light, to let me know it stopped. If my tape is still going and it shut off, because of the timer it would help to know that, when and where. I would also like to see quality settings. I think there were two but that was more for size and only two. For the money and quality I am happy. It seems like a few basic things could make this a lot better rather quickly.Read full review

It would be nice if there were more settings / adjustments for picture quality, but it's still a good value. I was able to set it up with an old hi8 camera and start converting my tapes to digital files. I was lucky enough to have an empty SD card to use (8GB) so I've been using that to transfer files to a more permanent hard drive. Overall the workflow is pretty clean but it is mostly manual, I have to sync the start of the tape and the converter old school style and then watch for the end of each clip. I suppose if I didn't care I could just let it run but I was concerned about file size. There is some slight evidence of frame drops / choppy interpolation but I'll take it. The final product looks light years better than videos from my early Android phones. Now I just need more time to transfer all my tapes...Read full review

It is easy to use once you can figure out how to maneuver through the different screens. There are areas where they want you to perform a process, but assume you know what certain images stand for. I figured it out after trial and error, but a page somewhere needs the images displayed and their purpose. This issue is why I didn't give the unit a five star rating.

No installation, just pass through video end audio collected on an S.D. card or usb memory stick which you can then copy onto a dvd for safekeeping. If you are an Apple person make sure you format your usb memory stick as fat32 or your Mac won’t be able to read it.

Love the concept.. BUT, if you want the video and audio to come out as the same that's on a video tape, you still need to go to a professional service, or buy professional equipment.. Ive over the last 12 years have tried to transfer VHS and Beta video tapes over to digital, I've tried everything to capture cards to USB devices like Pinnacle Dazzle, all have been failures.. Either they record too compressed or skip frames or adds more noticeable errors in the audio or video.. Now this device... I love how easy it is to use, I love the whole concept with the convenience of transferring over to flash drive, BUT, this device records noticeable audio noise which is very noticeable over voices, hard to explain, but that's a no go for me, and video quality is mediocre, it's slightly a bit too compressed.. You'll notice that the picture will get pixely over fast motions or if the VCR plays over a bad part of the tape, or if the there's a slow fade from a bright screen to a dark screen.. HD space these days is much cheaper, no need to compress video files from video tape sources that's only 4:3 ratio.. I was hoping they finally came out with a device that will record the EXACT quality, but this one also is no exception.. It records at 720 4:3 ratio which is good.. 1080 at 4:3 ratio would be better.. But they need to work on the video compression and audio chip set.. So once again, I'm waiting for something to come out.. Or I may go to a professional, or buy professional equipment..Read full review
