I purchased this decapping die to try it out to see if it really did what it was advertised as doing. The cases do not have to be cleaned or lubed to decap any size. This is a plus in my book, because it allows you to remove the spent primer first and when you do clean you cases. The primer pocket gets clean also. This die is truly a time saver. The only bad thing I have found is that the decapping pin is not indestructible. I decapped some 9mm cases first with great success, but when decapping some 223 cases. (military case) (double flash holes) The decapping pin broke, so I had to order another, but that's been the only down fall. You just have to sort the double flash holes cases out before decapping. I am glad that I purchase this die. I can install it into my Dillion XL650 with my swag die and the 233/556 cases go pretty quick.Read full review

Have always had issues with my Redding 223 decapping die, bent and/or broken pins, etc. Just frustrating! After last bent pin, decided to go with a universal decapper. Best money I have spent on a reloading tool. Functions great, does just one thing and does it great. No binding, no stuck pins or primers, effortless operation in my RCBS Jr press. Haven't used it on military brass with crimped primers but would expect the same effortless functionality. States pre-cleaning of brass not necessary but I do it anyway especially with range pick brass just to keep sand and grit out of my die. Great product just like my Lee 45 ACP dies. Well designed and they all work great...

This die is very handy for decapping your spent brass before cleaning. Using clean brass will help avoid gunking up your resizing dies, so having this one die that will take the primers out of virtually any caliber brass is darned handy. Be aware, though, that you need the right shell holder for the brass you're decapping. One word of advice, get an extra decapping pin. Though Lee claims their pins are virtually indestructible, I managed to break mine the first day I used it when I hit the bottom of a Berdan primed case. I suspect that the collet was too tight from the factory, but none-the-less, the pin broke clean off. The good news is that replacements are under $5.00, so it's easy to have a spare in the toolbox.

this is a great tool if you want to remove primers before cleaning and don't want to run dirty brass through your sizing die. and it is a must if you use the lee loadmaster in the first stage. I bought one for each of my different caliper setups. just to save time. I do recommend this product.

This is my fourth Lee Universal Decapping Die and the first that I had issues from the start. The collet that secures the depriming rod was loose, nothing that a simple tightening wont resolve. Now is working perfectly. Mind to use proper sized wrenches and secure the die to avoid slippage as great force is needed. I got sore knuckles for days some years ago when trying to reset a die and had an accident. The other three dies are installed on my progressive tool heads and needed an additional one for my single stage press.
