  • Low budget but not bad

This is a low-budget film, but you almost wouldn't know it. The acting is excellent. The audience gets to know, and care about, the doctor and his family who move from the city to a small, isolated town. Sure, the neighbors are a little odd, but not weird enough to send anyone running back to the city in terror. Even when an old man shows the doctor a cemetery in the woods, and urges him to sacrifice a goat, the old man seems to have mental problems, not someone who should be taken seriously. Of course, the doctor should have sacrificed the goat...but by the time we see the creatures, the low budget becomes all too apparent. Without special effects, the monsters are semi-naked masked people covered in dirt, and the premise collapses. I can understand why the semi-human monsters would want a doctor on hand, but needing him specifically to DELIVER A BABY seems strange considering they already have a skilled midwife.
