You have to have an extension cord to plug this in. But, put it on the grill, pile coals all over it, then plug it in and settle back. Gets the coals burning without using charcoal lighter [which stinks up the neighborhood and I think the food as well]. But be careful - when you pull this out of the coals it is red hot and can brand somebody.
