Although I'm a big fan of mystery books, I hadn't come across one of Blocks until I heard he was the favorite author of Tony Leung Chiu Wai, who happens to be my favorite actor from Hong Kong. Well I figure, Block must be really good, so I picked up Hit List. I thought it was the first in the series, but actually Hit Man is the first, however you really could read either one in any order. At first I thought, wow, a book about a hit man named Keller, now THIS is a new one on me! But as I kept reading, I found myself liking Keller.... his thoughts, the dry humour, the repartie between him and his contact Dot (who lines up his jobs for him)... it's not your average mystery book for sure! Lawrence Block has a wonderful writing style, it keeps you wanting to read more and more and never put the book down. So much so, that I have now read Hit List, then read Hit Man, and actually am now re-reading Hit List... it's that good! I'm also picking up many of his other books... the Matthew Scudder Mysteries and the Burglar mysteries. Thank goodness Block is a prolific writer, I have many books to choose from!Read full review
If you're not a fan of Keller this will definitely change that, the usual quirky humour that has to be read to be appreciated
